Other Student Video Analysis

I found that this video wasn't good as it didn't use as many cuts and camera angles as they should have. Also the lip syncing didn't fit in with the music, because it was a slow song I found it hard to concentrate and get dragged in to the music video. I also think that the costume wasn't well planned, he looked casual, you couldn't really tell what sort of mood you should be in. The camera shots were repetitive they didn't use as many as they should have too make the video more exciting. I think as it was a slow song it couldn't have been any more lively than it was.

The idea of the start of the music video when he was drawing the world fitted it, however, I think that it took too long to get into the music video. I also found the song cheesy and the music video also very cheesy. The song didn't fit in with the costume the people was wearing. For the chorus of the song it was a boy in simple clothes with a hat, it didn't fit in with the song it looked very out of place. I also think the location wasn't very planned out as it was very simple. In order to create a successful music video locations should be changed often. Overall, I think the jump cuts were good, however, sometimes they were put in the wrong place.

These are two screenshots I got from the music videos, as you can see in the bottom picture you can tell that the costume wasn't well thought out. It looks random and definitely doesn't fit in with the genre of the music video. The top picture is an example of what I was saying above, it's a good idea but also risky. I found that it dragged too much and I got bored within the first 10 seconds of viewing it. I would say that these two music videos were a high C or a Low B-  pushing it.

This video showed poor camera angles. The camera skills weren't good. I often found the camera would be blurred and not focused. I would grade this a C.

                                                              The Good

I found the editing for this music video was amazing, there was never a dull moment. The only thing that could have been improved is facial expressions and costume. There was a variety of camera angles and editing used which made the video stand out to the others, I found this was a good video to watch and you never get bored and want too look away. Overall i'd rate this music video a B or low A due to editing techniques that were used.

I enjoyed when they edited the music video to show this moving image then to another. It was more interesting too watch.

As there was an actual story to this music video I found it very intriguing. It sends out a message to the audience, as well as making the music video they probably inspired a lot of people. My favourite part of the music video was the editing, when the girl is in the woods and it keeps flashing and blurring, I think this work was an A, i've not seen such good editing as I did compared to the other music videos. Also when the girl was sat down in public with people walking past, it was random yet showed amazing use of camera angles and editing put together. The music video was no way boring at all, yet exciting. I would mark this video an A for great use of camera angles, editing, location and costume.

What I learnt
I learnt what I need to do in order to make a successful music video which can achieve me a high mark. From looking at music videos I have learnt what not to do, for example, the ugly music videos that i analysed. Some barely show any change of location or costume, I found this boring too watch, I also believe they looked unprepared and rushed. I will put a lot of time when it comes to my music video and I will plan well ahead.

Branding

What I learnt

I have learnt how artists brand their own product and how they do this to make it successful. I now know how to brand my product and how to make it successful. Image is important in order to make the genre correspond to the design. For example, Ellie Goulding had flitter on one of her album colours, we already know the main audience for this artist will mostly be females. Hair and make up is important to portray the image they're trying to show to their audience. I now know what I will produce in order too make a successful campaign.

Digipak Adverts

The imaged used on the digipaks are mainly images of the artist or band, or an image that represents the bands genre. All the digipaks that I researched have the bands name and most likely they will try advertise themselves as a group on the front of the digipak or on the inside. This includes things such as, tour dates, songs, new albums being realised etc. They use big bold letters to catch attention, being a main feature of the advertisement. An example is Rihanna's digipak advert. She has red hair and used red writing on her digipak. This makes the digipak look simple and tidy, yet eye catching and trendy. Albums use bright contrasting colours to give the audience what they want, two different digipaks I discovered where Adele and Rihanna, they are both different genres. However, I found out that Rihanna uses bright contrasting colours with different types of typography to stand out to her audience which is more teenagers than adults. Then on Adeles album it is simple, bold typography and standard contrast with colours. This shows that artists portray themselves in a way that their audience would like to see them.

What I learnt:

From doing this task, I learnt that most digipak posters and actual digipaks will always link to each other, most of the time they are the exact same but with a slightly different image or different contrast. In order to make my own digipak poster and digipak I would do the same, but not have them the exact same so both of them stand out and are good in different ways. All the digipak poster will give a URL to their websites, this is great advertisement and I think it fitted in well with the poster, it wasn't out of place and it's a great way to get the audience more involved into buying tickets to their concert or their album.

Digipak Analysis

Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.
I learnt through doing this research that most people don't usually buy digipaks as they would rather buy their music online where they can access music through their laptops, phones and iPods etc. However, when I asked an older range of gender they said they do own digipaks as they wouldn't know how to use the internet to buy their songs. I learnt that piracy also fits into this, as most of the teenagers I asked said they wouldn't buy it as they choose to illegally download their music. This means that records like digipaks aren't getting sold- this is due to teenagers being the ones who listens to music every day of their life, but they access their music through technology (phones). From these interviews we have learnt digipaks are being dominated by piracy and people downloading, however adults, are still inclined to purchase them. This means that creating a digipak for a young and current artist needs to be very eye catching and offer something different in order for young people to buy them. When I come too make my digipak I now have a better understanding on what i've got too include on my front cover, as the examples I showed people didn't seem too impress people. Now I know I have too think about contrast and colours and the pictures that I will display on the front cover on the digipak. What i've learnt about the actual product is that nobody would actually buy a digipak unless the digipak cover was eye catching and different. This may be because most young people are interested in downloading music online for free, rather than going out to a store and buying a digipak.

Things I will need too include in my Digipak:

•   Good use of contrasting and colours, make the front cover stand out, e,g, good use of pictures and effects.
•   The typography that i'm going to use needs to be different and eye catching. Stand out to the rest of the cover so my target audience knows what it is. This could include bright or bold fonts.
Good use of camera angles and positions. I need to think about what sort of shots I will want too use throughout my digipak in order to create a successful image and design for my target audience.

Artist website analysis

What I learnt

After creating this Prezi, I have learnt about wesbites and the simplicity and the need to use colours and images that directly relate towards the genre. I have also noticed from the research that some artists will advertise themselves the way that they want their target audiences to see them. How they portray themselves is all down to frame work, whereas others may rely on the sound of music they create. Now I have a better understanding on what I need too use on my website in order to create a successful image. By doing this task I now have a better understanding and this will help me in order too create my own website. I have learnt about colour and contrasting, this has gave me a better understanding and ideas of what I need to do include on my website too make it eye catching. The development of the websites I looked at are all different, they have created their own image, this means I already have a head start as i've been thinking about my image and theme that i'm going too design.

The History Of Music Videos

From creating this page, I have been able to look in extreme detail at how music videos have changed over the years. Many technologies have changed since music videos began, which has caused the way we receive these videos to develop. The progress of music videos has increased and developed over an amount of time, an example of this is MTV as they have given people access to the music through mobile phones, laptops, TV's, apps and many more. This is all down to the proliferation of hardware and how much of a drastic change it has had over the years. With the development in software like Youtube, artists and producers have a platform to upload videos for free to a wide audience gaining comments and feedback on the product they have made. This means music videos were able to evolve with what audiences where implying with the feedback they gave.
